Moline, Ill.–The Statesmen men’s bowling team was in the top half at the ISYL Leatherneck Classic Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn placed 20th out of 40 teams with 8,270 pins in six regular games and 16 Baker games. McKendree (Ill.) topped the standings with 9,533 pins, but it was #2 seed Lindenwood (Mo.) that took the title in bracket play.

Jacques Kaune (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management) guided the navy and gold’s ship with a 205.2 average to place 24th.

Two games were started by both Ryan Howard (So., King, N.C., Music) (171.5 avg.) and Kyle Clark (Sr., Aurora, Ill., Physical Education) (156.0).

WPU also put a junior varsity team in action and the second squad was stellar in winning the lower level division with 8,433 pins. Unfortunately, the Statesmen lost to St. Ambrose 2-0 in the bracket finals.

Stian Hoff (So., Orkanger, Norway, General Accounting) was the top JV roller with a 206.2 average. Connor Frederick (Sr., Ottumwa, Iowa, History/Government), at 188.8, and Cody Adair (So., Kearns, Utah, Undecided), at 183.7, also started in all six games.

Next Up: William Penn takes a week off before returning to action November 22-23 at the Lindenwood Lion’s Classic in St. Charles, Mo.

13th-Place Showing for Statesmen at Leatherneck Event

Davenport–Stephanie Adams (So., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management) and Kelsey Johnson (Sr., Montgomery, Ill., Secondary Education) were both high finishers to pace the William Penn women’s bowling team at the ISYL Leatherneck Classic Saturday and Sunday.

William Penn placed 13th out of 27 teams with 8,112 pins in six regular games and 16 Baker games. St. Francis (Ill.) topped the standings with 8,750 pins, while #5 seed Grand View took the title in bracket play.

Haley Baser of Robert Morris-Springfield (Ill.) was the top roller out of 227 players with a 205.8 average (1,235 pins). Adams was right on her heels, though, with a runner-up finish at 204.2, and Johnson was in the mix as well, taking fifth place at 199.2.

WPU was thinned by an unfortunate car accident earlier in the week (individuals involved are fine), leaving the squad with the bare minimum of five players in action.

Montana Pence (So., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education), at 166.5, Briell Newberry (Fr., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education), at 162.7, and Emily Braga (Jr., Newton, Iowa, Communications), at 161.0, also started all six games for the navy and gold.
