Oskaloosa, Iowa – The South Central Regional Airport held their quarterly meeting on October 2nd in Pella. The board rotates its meetings between Pella and Oskaloosa.

On the agenda for the board was the Federal Aviation Administration Planning Studies Update and Receive and file the South Central Regional Airport Agency’s audited financial statements for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2013.

According to Oskaloosa City Manager Michael Schrock, the project is continuing with its airport layout plan phase. The environmental study hasn’t yet been started.

“The consultant presented a draft of that document [airport layout plan] to the board,” said Schrock. The board then reviewed the document and generated an outline for the next steps to take in the project. The FAA will then have to approve the airport layout plan.

“One of the most important parts of that plan is identifying a financial plan for the airport,” explained Schrock. The Board will then present the financial plan to the FAA as well. Paying for the airport remains at the 90/10 ratio with the FAA, with 90% of the cost being picked up by the FAA with 10% cost being paid by Pella and Oskaloosa.

After those steps are completed, the Board hopes to receive clearance to progress with the environmental study phase of the project. If that process begins, the board hopes to have that completed by the summer of 2015.

The Board then reviewed the preliminary construction schedule and some of the items that would be included in the development of the airport.

No action beyond receiving the audit report was taken by the board at their October 2 meeting.
