Indians Continue To Struggle In Conference Play
Oskaloosa Sophomore Jason BeeBe suffered a season ending ankle injury against Knoxville Friday night.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians varsity football team has had one of those seasons where the record doesn’t represent the effort and desire.
Oskaloosa Head Coach Mike Sterner talked about his team’s performance Friday night. “I think we found lots of ways to lose, and that doesn’t have anything to do with the scoreboard. We made lots of mental mistakes. We did things successful football teams don’t do. You’ve got to get rid of penalties. You’ve got to block through the whistle.”
Sterner added that Knoxville “is a very physical, growing football team, who’s growing in their conference, and now we’re going in kind of a downward spiral. Our kids have got to find a way to tough this one out now, cause we’ve still got one game left on the schedule. I know our kids will want to finish strong and give it their best shot.”
The season has been a struggle for the team, but Sterner continues to be positive with his team, even with a disappointing season coming to an end.
The Indians came out strong in the first quarter against Knoxville, putting a score up, for the first time all season, in the first quarter. Sterner said that there was an effort to accomplish that goal. “We just imploded from there,” said Sterner.
The Indians struggled to maintain possession of the football on Friday, and Sterner said they have to find “positive ways to make positive things happen.”
Beyond the teams record this season, Sterner spoke about his team. “These young men, they just refuse to go away. They refuse to quit. They have an indomitable spirit. I love these seniors, because, dang-it, it hurts.” Sterner added that the younger classmen wanted to have a better night for their senior teammates on Senior Night.
Oskaloosa travels to Carlisle on Friday night for their final game of the season.
