OSKALOOSA –The Mahaska Health Partnership Laboratory has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent onsite inspection. The MHP Laboratory scored in the 99 percentile.
The laboratory’s medical director, Ashok R. Pradhan, MD, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of services being provided. MHP’s Laboratory is one of more than 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories worldwide.
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program. Inspectors examine records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, as well as equipment, facilities, safety programs and the overall management of the laboratory.
According to MHP CEO Jay Christensen, the MHP Laboratory consistently performs in the upper tier of facilities that participate in the CAP survey, which is considered the gold standard for laboratory accreditation. “Our lab has consistently scored above the 96th percentile for the last several surveys,” Christensen said. “This truly shows the excellent leadership of Dr. Pradhan and the commitment of entire laboratory team.
“As a medical facility, essentially everything we do is touched by the laboratory. We believe that quality in the laboratory is imperative. We are so proud of the fact that at our base, we have such a high quality service, especially for a rural hospital. Patients and residents should be proud of the results of the CAP survey.”
