Penalties Cost Indians In Norwalk Match-up

The Oskaloosa Indians fell to Norwalk 38-13. The Indians are now 1-6 on the season.

Norwalk, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians football team season has been one that tests each player and their resolve.

The 1-6 Indians have played and look better than their record may indicate, but have been plagued by penalties that have cost the team. Oskaloosa Indians Head Football Coach Mike Sterner talked about the penalty situation. “[We] just cannot have those kinds of penalties and really expect to overcome and win the football game.”

“Our kids…they wanted to win, they believed they should win.” said Sterner. “We had a good week of practice. We had good plays that would run and we could do good things against them. We had to do some adjustments as the game went on because they [Norwalk] were doing some things to try and take away a few of our best things. So we made some adjustments, and when we made those adjustments, the plays started to happen.”

The play-off hopes for the team decreased with the loss on Friday night. Oskaloosa News asked Sterner about the remainder of the season. “Well we’re going to give our kids the best chance to be their best and go out and play a football game and have fun with their brothers, have fun with their teammates, and continue to get better. These kids have not quit. You can see it in their eyes throughout the game.”

Oskaloosa returns home to face Knoxville in a conference match-up. Kick-off is set for 7:30 pm.
