Jeannie L. McFarland, 62, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born Thursday, September 4, 1952 in Iowa City, the daughter of Violet Rose Norris.

Following high school Jeannie worked at a restaurant in Davenport. She received her Associates Degree in Corpus Christi, and later worked at Blue Star Foods in Council Bluffs and the Mahaska Mental Health Center transcribing records. She also worked at Job Services. Lastly, Jeannie worked at NeoData in Knoxville for 13 years.

Jeannie and Roy McFarland dated for several years before deciding to go their separate ways. After several years had gone by, and both of them had married and divorced, their paths crossed again. On May 7, 1977, Jeannie was united in marriage to Roy McFarland and they were happily married for over 37 years.

Early on, Jeannie served as her son’s Cub Scouts leader, and attended Riverside Baptist Church in Burlington.

Jeannie enjoyed sewing, crocheting and was a fabulous cook. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She also liked riding horses when she was younger and going camping with her family in the summers.

Jeannie is survived by her husband: Roy McFarland of Oskaloosa; two sons: Marc Alfred of Kansas City, Missouri and Robert (& Angel) McFarland of Brooklyn; two daughters: Angela Sherwood of Des Moines and Amanda (& Steve) Shepherd of Fremont; a step daughter, Angela Jannette of Milan, Illinois; 9 grandchildren: Connor McFarland, Hope Sherwood, Chantel McFarland, Destiny Playle, Andrea McFarland, Mackenzie Alfred, Katee Sherwood, Anthony Alfred and Violet Sherwood; two step grandchildren: Nicole and Dakota; two step great grandchildren: Alaina and Paisley; three sisters: Mary (& Jerry Hill) Hartman of Barnes City, Becky (& Jim) Biehn of Indianola, and Linda Blake of Cincinnati, Iowa; and two brothers: Roger (& Linda) Reeder and Eddy (& Sue) Dooley both of Oskaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Violet and Albert Reeder; a step son, Kevin McFarland; a brother, Danny Reeder; sisters-in-law: Roberta Dooley, Helen McFarland, Daisy Weaver, and Irene Long; and brothers-in-law: James Hartman, Sr., Chuck McFarland, Gene McFarland, and David McFarland.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 13, 2014, at 2 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Sunday, October 12, 2014, after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel, and the family will be present from 1 – 3 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
