Des Moines (Oskaloosa), Iowa | Age 37

Matt Padgett, 37, of Des Moines and formerly of Oskaloosa passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at his home in Des Moines.

Matthew Wesley Padgett, son of Ronald Dean and Janice Gail (Vandegeest) Padgett, was born November 8, 1976, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He attended Oskaloosa schools for most of his education and was a 1995 graduate of North Mahaska High School.

From the time when he was a child, Matt loved to accompany his father, a plumber, on repair calls. He followed his father into the family plumbing business and in 2010 he expanded it to Des Moines. Matt had a true passion for plumbing. He enjoyed excavating, something he had done with his father since age twelve. He was an innovator and enjoyed using the latest technology available and was even featured in a national publication of a plumbing magazine for his work on septic systems.

Matt was passionate about everything he took on. Although Matt’s work was his life, he did everything with his loyal companions, his dogs, Lil’ Rooters and Lucy. He enjoyed cribbage, golf, volleyball, and motorcycle riding. Family was important to Matt and he maintained close relationships with his niece and nephew, and great uncle, who was his mentor and friend.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents: Ron and Jan Padgett of Oskaloosa; a brother, Chad Padgett (& fiancee’, Jennifer Watson) of Houston, TX; his nephew, Jacob A. Padgett of Maryville, MO; and niece, Hailey R. Padgett of Ames, IA; uncles: Jack (& Barb) Padgett of Sully, Rex Padgett (& Shirley Carlson) of Oskaloosa; aunts: Barb (& Chris) Reno of Topeka, KS, Jeanine (& Dale) Stewart of Oskaloosa, and Gwen Vandegeest of Oskaloosa; great uncle, Ira Vande Geest of Moline, IL; and several cousins.

Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents and an uncle, Daryl Vandegeest.

A Family Prayer Service will be held at 10:15 in the west wing of the sanctuary.
His body has been cremated and burial of his cremated remains, contained within a 4 inch piece of PVC pipe, will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Sunday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, the family will be present to greet visitors from 2-4 p.m.
