Porter to Sign Copies of His Books Saturday Morning at Penn Activity Center

Oskaloosa, IA—David Porter, Louis Tuttle Shangle Professor of History at William Penn University, will be signing copies of his various books on this Saturday, September 27, from 9:15 a.m. to noon at the Penn Activity Center a part of Homecoming Weekend activities. His most recent book, Their Greatest Victory, profiles the remarkable stories of 24 athletes who overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles to achieve outstanding feats. His other books available include Michael Jordan, a biography of the Chicago Bulls basketball legend; The Seventy-sixth Congress and World War II, 1939-1940, the dramatic story of how Congress responded to the outbreak of the Second World War; Congress and the Waning of the New Deal, the story of how Congress responded to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal programs in the late 1930s; Mary Norton of New Jersey, the moving story of how an immigrant’s daughter with only an eighth grade education became a trailblazer on labor and women’s legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1930s and 1940s, and The San Diego Padres Encyclopedia, a team history that includes a small segment on Oskaloosa native Dick Freeman. Several biographical sports books he has edited and books containing polls he has conducted regarding the rating of U.S. Presidents and sports figures, among others, also will be available.
