Oskaloosa, Iowa – Just about a year ago, a congregation, along with many others from the community, joined together to frame the walls of a new Habitat for Humanity house in Oskaloosa. After a few wrinkles along the way, a new family is set to benefit from the generosity of many.

Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity held a ‘Stud Finder Fundraiser’. This fundraiser involved businesses and groups sponsoring a stud for $100.00. The sponsor of the stud could then decorate it brfore returning it to Habitat for use in the walls of a new home.

Nearly 70 of these donated and decorated studs found their way into the walls.

So the painted boards were turned into the skeleton of a home, as Executive Director for Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity Valinn McReynolds, along with many volunteers, helped to frame those original walls in the parking lot of Central Reformed Church. Andy Baker, Director of Outreach at Central Reformed Church, who helped to coordinate those efforts last October, also stopped by the home to see the framed walls now in place.

McReynolds said it was interesting to see all of the studs now in place, and the volunteers and those that donated got to see the progress of the house.
