Oskaloosa–The offense has not clicked yet, but that has not prevented the Statesmen men’s soccer team from its best start ever as WPU defeated Calumet-St. Joseph (Ind.) 1-0 in the finale of the WPU Classic Sunday.

The Statesmen, who are 4-0 for the first time ever, posted their third-consecutive shutout and have allowed just one goal in over 371 minutes of play this fall.

The home team held a marginal 9-8 advantage in shots, but had the day’s only score when Angelo Kelly (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Physical Education) slipped a left-footed unassisted attempt into the far corner at the 19:54 mark.

Luiz Teles (So., Picarres, Brazil, Undecided) paced the offense with three shots, while Mason Bandy (Sr., Calgary, Alberta, Biology) tallied his third-straight shutout with two saves. The Crimson Wave (2-2) gave WPU some scares late in a physical battle that featured 41 fouls (seven yellow cards).

Next Up: William Penn travels to Bellevue, Neb. Wednesday to face Bellevue in non-conference action at 5 p.m.
