Clarice Ellen (Wobbema) Eschenbrenner, 90 of Sigourney, formerly of Fremont, died Friday, August 15, 2014 at Manor House Care Center. She was born to Herman and Ellen (Wiersma) Wobbema on January 16, 1924 in Orange City, Iowa.

Clarice married Rev. James O. Eschenbrenner Sr. on July 31, 1950 and they served churches and church related colleges in Minnesota, Kansas, California, Tennessee, North Dakota, Montana, and Indiana. For several years, Clarice taught school on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota and in Sidney, Montana. She and her husband owned and managed the Logos Bookstore in Bloomington, Indiana from 1975 to 1980. Following her husband’s death in July 1980, Clarice worked in retail until her retirement in 1990.

Clarice moved to Fremont when her son was called to pastor a church nearby and lived there until she fell in March 2008, after which she moved to the Manor House in Sigourney.

Clarice is survived by two sons, Jim Eschenbrenner of Hedrick, and Mark (& Marilyn) Eschenbrenner of Portland, Maine; eight grandchildren: Joy (& Tony) Latcham, Peter Eschenbrenner, Kari (& Jeremy) Hamilton, and Caylinn, Alyssa, Stephen, Jonathan, and Victoria Eschenbrenner; six great-grandchildren, and one sister, Harriet Dietrich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter-in-law, Lois Eschenbrenner; and her brother-in-law, Larry Dietrich.

Her body was laid to rest in a graveside service at Brooks Cemetery, Hedrick, Iowa and Fremont Funeral Chapel assisted the family.

There will be a Celebration of Life service on September 11, 2014 at 11 am at Northgate Alliance Church in Ottumwa, Iowa with her son, Rev. Jim Eschenbrenner, officiating.

Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. September 11, 2014 at Northgate Alliance Church, Ottumwa, IA
Interment: Brooks Cemetery, Hedrick, Iowa
In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be directed to the Pekin Ministerial Association, 205 W. 4th St, Packwood, Iowa, 52580.
