Weekly Workout Offers Something For Many
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Something new is happening on the Oskaloosa Square Sunday afternoons, allowing Oskaloosa residents to work-out together and enjoy the benefits of social interaction.
Oskaloosa Blue Zones hopes to host the event every Sunday afternoon at 4pm through the end of October. If things are going well, the plan is to then move the fitness Sunday into a location to continue the weekly event through the winter. “We would definitely like to make it a year-round thing,” says Hannah DeGeest with the Oskaloosa Blue Zones Project.
There is no cost for individuals or families who participate in the Sunday afternoon sessions, which are hosted by various trainers from around the community. Every week is different, and will expose individuals to various types of fitness. After the workout, there is also a free nutrition lesson by individuals “that know about healthy food and healthy eating,” added DeGeest.
Local Oskaloosa resident AJ Hodgeman stopped by the Sunday afternoon workout as he finished up a bicycle ride. As the intense workout was underway, being lead by local trainer Rebecca Dejong of Rugged Trail Transformations, Hodgeman found himself challenged by the workout taking place. “I was just out riding my bike and saw this was going on. Thought it was going to be low key, it’s not. It’s very intense, very involved, but it’s worth it.
Hodgeman said the workout is something different than what he normally does. “Variety of exercises; keeps your heart going. Good stuff,” added Hodgeman.
You can join the next session on Sunday starting at 4pm on the Oskaloosa Square.
