Emery “Roy” Grace, 61, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella. He was born November 7, 1952, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of (Urbin) Dale and Betty June Vance Grace.
Roy graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1970. He furthered his education at the University of Iowa. He later earned a degree in Horology from Gem City School of Horology in Quincy, Illinois.
He served as a jeweler apprentice for many years under Master Jeweler Gerrard D. Tams. Roy was a licensed jeweler and watch maker in the state of Iowa. He worked for many years at Gardner Collier Jewelry in Oskaloosa. Other occupations included flooring installation locally for many years.
On April 26, 2014, after 15 years together, Roy and Lorraine Messer were united in marriage.
Roy had a love of literature, nature, gardening, plant-life and a great appreciation for the Arts. Roy was very knowledgeable in many things. He loved the “challenge” of Jeopardy.
His family includes his wife Lorraine Grace of Oskaloosa; three children: John (& Mo) Grace of Omaha, Nebraska, Trina (& Mike) Oldes of Des Moines, and Julie Grace of Des Moines; a stepson, Jeffrey VerSteegh; four grandchildren: Teila, Aden, Paige, and Jude; a sister, Christine (& Tim) Smith of Aurora, Colorado; a brother, Clay (& Ginger) Grace of Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Elaine Robinson.
As a caring and giving man, his last act of generosity was his donation of his body to the Des Moines University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
An informal memorial service will be held at Eveland Access cabins on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 5 p.m.
