The Mahaska YMCA, along with Imagine the Possibilities hosted an Adult Challenger League ball game on Sunday 8-10-14 at the Lacey Recreation Complex ball field. The almost 40 players formed the Jets and Cubs teams, all from Mahaska, while over 50 spectators cheered them on. Ryan Harkema, YMCA’s Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Director, could be seen throughout the game lending a hand, calling out a word of encouragement, cheering and generally being a positive leader for the game. Many helpers were also on the field to lend a hand and a smile. It was clear that the game was a happy occasion for all participants, from the laughs and high fives, even for opposing teams, that were a regular reaction throughout the afternoon. When asked if he was going to hit one out of the park, Jason, a player for the Jets, stated “Wait, if I hit one out of the park, do I have to go get it?!” Followed by laughs, as was the general mood, the players proceeded to hit and run, insuring that everyone was given a chance for both. No scores were kept and everyone left feeling like a winner. For more pictures of the game go to the MCRF face book page at www.facebook.com/mcrf.laceyrecreation.
