Pauline “Boots” Ruth Kelley, 88, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at her home in Oskaloosa. She was born November 28, 1925, in Farmington, Missouri, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Mary Della Hutchings Bowyer.

Pauline graduated from the Farmington High School. On August 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to Robert Kelley at Mt. Pleasant; Robert died in 1996.

Together Pauline and Robert farmed, raised a family and operated care facilities in Monroe and Mahaska Counties. Pauline had a servant heart and spent her entire life caring for others. In 1987, she retired and the operation of the care facility was turned over to two of their sons, Robert and Randall.

In retirement Pauline enjoyed going out to Country Life Care Facility to help with various tasks and visit with the residents. She enjoyed reading, watching movies, and keeping up on politics. Pauline’s family was the center of her life, she delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her family includes four children and their spouses; Linda & (Jack) Schlater of Ames, Robert & (Susann) Kelley of Oskaloosa, Randall & (Joni) Kelley of Oskaloosa and Mark & (Linda) Kelley of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Brittney Kelley; and many brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Liz Colton officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
As was Pauline’s wish, her body has been cremated.
Burial of the urn will be at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
