Don Denney, 92, of Oskaloosa passed away Wednesday evening, July 2, 2014, at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa. Donald Eugene Denney, son of Nick and Elsie (Fry) Denney, was born May 22, 1922, in Drakesville, IA.

Throughout his childhood he attended school in Lime Springs, Rose Hill, Oskaloosa and Bloomfield. Don’s parents farmed and he grew up working for them on the family farm. When he was still a young man, Don decided to leave the farm and become a mechanic.

Don’s first job was at the Rose Hill Garage. He later worked at Century Motors in Sigourney and Schultz Motors in Oskaloosa. He was eventually hired by the Oskaloosa Community School District, where he maintained the fleet of school buses. He retired in 1983 after serving the district 36 years.

Don married the love-of-his-life, Dorothy Ione Shipley, June 5, 1943, in Lancaster, Missouri. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Oskaloosa and enjoyed gardening.

His family includes his wife, Dorothy of 71 years; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; great great nieces and great great nephews; including a special niece, Margie (Arthur) Millikin of Hedrick; and a brother-in-law, Loren Schwartz, also of Hedrick.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held for Don at 1 p.m., Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2014, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will be at the funeral chapel from 3-4:30 to greet visitors.
As was his wish, his body will be cremated following the visitation.
Burial will be held privately.
Memorial contributions may be made to MHP Hospice Services.

Please access the funeral chapel from N. Market ST and E. Glendale Rd due to road construction on North Third ST.
