The Oskaloosa City Band performs each Thursday at 8pm in the evening during summer.

Due to rain, the city band concert and the additional activities planned for Thursday the 19th were canceled but there is good news! The Oskaloosa City Band will perform June 26th at 8 p.m. on the city square and the Oskaloosa High School Band Boosters will host their meal-deal fundraiser at this June 26th concert.

The concert is free and a great way to come together with community members and enjoy music while visiting at the bandstand. Director Bruce Peiffer, who has directed the band for the last eight years, stated that this summer celebrates the band’s 150 year anniversary.

Oskaloosa Municipal Band, as it is now known, has been performing weekly summer concerts since its beginning in 1864. As part of the sesquicentennial celebration, Mayor Krutzvelt will speak about the bands history at this week’s event. In addition to regular refreshments provided by TruBank (popcorn), Hawkeye Real Estate (beverages), and Oskaloosa Sno Biz (sno biz frozen treats), the Mahaska County Cattlemen will be grilling, beginning at 5 p.m. Steak sandwiches, hamburgers, jumbo hotdogs; along with chips, beverages, and baked goodies will be available for purchase with all proceeds will going to the Oskaloosa Band Boosters to promote the Oskaloosa band programs.

There will also be a prize drawing near the end of the concert. “We really, really hope this evening will have perfect weather and we still look forward to a delicious Cattleman meal deal!” said Joe Caligiuri, High School Band Boosters President.

Bring your lawn chairs and join us for a meal, a visit, and an evening of graceful music. To stay informed in case of weather check in with the City Band’s Facebook page HERE
