YMCA Presents Request to Oskaloosa City Council

Mahaska County YMCA

Mahaska County YMCA

Oskaloosa – June 18, 2014 – On June 16th the Mahaska County YMCA made a presentation to the Oskaloosa City Council seeking support through a 28E agreement for facility and aquatics maintenance costs totaling just over $193,000. The YMCA is used by over 3,400 members of our community and as a result of the merger with Kids Corner, has nearly half of all the licensed child care spots in the county. In order to proactively plan for the future of recreation and early childhood education in Mahaska County, the Y believes that a comprehensive community needs assessment is needed. The Y hopes to involve all providers of early childhood and recreational opportunities, along with local jurisdictions and the school district in hopes of leveraging resources to meet the most need. This proposal was a first step to looking at recreation and early childhood education in a comprehensive way to attract and retain families in our community because of the high quality of life. A work session with the City Council and the YMCA will be scheduled in the coming months for further discussion. For more information, please contact Dawn Collins at 673-8411.
