Damon Joel DeGroot, 45, of Rose Hill died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at the MHP Emergency Room in Oskaloosa. He was born August 27, 1968, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Darlene Rogers DeGroot.
Damon graduated from Oskaloosa Senior High with the class of 1987. He went on to earn degrees from Indian Hills Community College and William Penn College. Following school he worked for many years at Oskaloosa Food Products.
Damon enjoyed playing and watching baseball, gardening, traveling and watching races on television.
His family includes his father Kenneth DeGroot of Rose Hill; three brothers: Kevin DeGroot of Long Beach, California, Bryan (Betsy) DeGroot of Oskaloosa and Todd DeGroot of Rose Hill; a sister, Darla DeGroot (Roy Sams) of Des Moines; nieces and nephews: Carrie, Leisha, Ashleigh, Brandon, Ciara, Justin, Shauntel, Ariana, Sarah and Heidi; many great nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, and a sister, Marcia Lynn DeGroot; paternal grandparents, George and Bertha DeGroot; and his maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Charlotte Rogers.
Funeral services for Damon DeGroot will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskalolosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation begins Monday after 11 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
