Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of May’s Player of the Month awards.

Junior outdoor track and field athlete Sam Taylor (Eddyville, Iowa, Industrial Technology) won the Male award, while sophomore women’s golfer Demi Coertze (Johannesburg, South Africa, Digital Communication) took the Female honor. Coertze is now a two-time recipient, having also won in March.

Taylor opened the month by winning the Midwest Collegiate Conference title in the 110-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 14.96 seconds. He also helped WPU at the conference meet with points in the high jump (second) and long jump (eighth). A few weeks later at nationals, the junior just missed reaching the finals, placing 15th in the hurdles at 14.99 seconds.

Coertze paced William Penn at its first-ever national tournament. The sophomore tied for 22nd out of 144 players with a 310 (+22) (82-80-75-73). Her final round 73 was a career low. She helped the Statesmen to place 15th overall.
