With being ranked in the class 4-A poll, the expectations are high for the Oskaloosa Softball team as they head into the 2014 softball season.

They were looking forward to opening the season on a strong note, and that’s how things played out as they swept the double header 4-0 and 12-0.

In the first game Osky sent Freshman-Alexis Groet to the mound. She was looking to build off of the all-conference season she had as a 8th grader last season. Groet did just that as she allowed just two hits and 3 walks to Collins Maxwell/Baxter, while striking out 13 to get the shutout win for the Indians.

Osky was lead offensively by several Indians. Sr. Kelsie Tomlin had 2 singles and a stolen base, So. Kylee Silliman finished with 3 singles, and Fr. Aubrey Miller got 2 singles and a RBI. Sr. Callie Arnold, Jr. Peyton Zickefoose, Kailyn Risher, Jr. Bethany Rowley and Sr. Bridgette Richards all had one hit each. Zickefoose also had an RBI to go along with an RBI from Fr. Alexis Westercamp.

In the second game So. Silliman took the ball and shut down CMB for the win. She was dominate by allowing 2 hits and 6 strikeouts, while allowing no runs in a mercy run rule in 4 innings.

Osky took advantage of walks and had several players driving in runs as they jumped out 9-0 after the second inning. They plated three more runs, to finish with a 12-0 victory. Leading the way were Sr.Callie Arnold and Fr. Alexis Westercamp with 3 RBI’s apiece, followed by Tomlin and Miller with 2 RBI’s each.

Osky is in action this Saturday at the Williamsburg tournament.
