GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College has had a strong presence on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large Teams.

Student-athletes honored were women’s swimmer Maddy Pesch ’16, men’s diver Daniel Goldstein ’16 and men’s tennis player Elliott Czarnecki ’15.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced the first week of June. To be nominated for the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

Pesch (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) was the runner-up at Midwest Conference championships in three events, took third in another and fourth in one more. She led Pioneers to their second team title in a row. Pesch has placed in top three at the MWC Championships eight times, including champion in the100 breaststroke in 2013. She is also part of the school-record in 400-yard medley relay team.

Goldstein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Community) was the MWC Male Diver of the Year after winning the one- and three-meter events at the league meet. He earned honorable mention All-America honors in one-meter diving after becoming the first Pioneer men’s diver since 2004 to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Czarnecki (Sioux Falls, S.D./O’Gorman) placed second in both No. 1 singles and doubles at the MWC championships. He helped guide the Pioneers to their 11th league crown in a row and win a match in the NCAA Regional Tournament. He has placed in the top two in the MWC four times in his career, including twice in singles and twice in doubles. Czarnecki has 46 career singles wins and 46 in doubles.
