(DES MOINES)—The Iowa Legislature concluded its work on Thursday, May 1 after spending 109 days doing the work of Iowans.

Rep. Guy Vander Linden (R-Oskaloosa) focused on bipartisan legislation to effectively manage the state budget, create certainty for hardworking Iowa taxpayers, families and employers and expand opportunities for Iowa’s veterans.

These priorities included:

· A state budget that does not spend more than the state takes in, does not use one-time money to pay for on-going expenses, does not intentionally underfund entitlement programs and returns unused tax dollars to Iowans;

· Continued collaboration with community colleges on workforce training and job creation and creating the Skilled Worker and Job Creation Fund which now houses all of the worker training programs;

Increased Iowa’s community college funding nearly 25% over the last four years;
Made it easier for families to afford the cost of college tuition by providing the funding necessary to freeze tuition at the regents universities;
Supported the Home Base Iowa Act which is a package of legislation is designed to attract veterans back to Iowa and ensure they have the opportunities they need to be successful when they return.

“I spent this year in the legislature focused on Iowans who play by the rules and simply want less government in their lives and in their pockets,” said Vander Linden. “I believe we were able to pass bills that give Iowans the opportunity to make family life more affordable, upward mobility more likely and employment easier to find.”

Rep. Vander Linden encouraged constituents to contact him during the interim at guy.vander.linden@legis.iowa.gov or (641) 569-3373.
