OSKALOOSA PUBLIC LIBRARY SUMMER READING KICK-OFF
Oskaloosa, IA – Summer is just around the corner, and that means Summer Reading at the Oskaloosa Public Library! Children of all ages and their parents are invited to join the Library in the Reading Garden for a kick-off party at 6:00 p.m., Monday, June 2.
This year’s children’s Summer Reading theme is “Fizz, Boom, Read!” Registration will begin the morning of June 2, and children will have the chance to sign up at the kick-off party. Evening activities will include crafts, snacks, live music and exploding volcanoes. Snow Biz will also be selling snow cones for $2.
“We’re really excited to kick things off this year,” said William Ottens, Library Director. “We’ve got a fun-filled two months planned for children with magicians, bubble shows, and science related events.”
“The most important part, though, is getting kids excited about reading,” said Ottens. Children will have the chance to read books and earn prizes from June 2 to August 1 this year.
The Library will also be offering programs for teens and adults. Teens who’ve completed 6th through 12th grade can participate in the “Find Your Fandom” program by picking up a reading log at the second floor desk. Events for teens throughout the summer will include Chess Club, Dungeons and Dragons, Messy Games and a Mini Comic Con.
Adults can pick up a reading log for the “Jazz Up Your Summer” program on the second floor too. The Library will host events for adults, including craft programs, “Musical Mondays,” and a presentation by Chad Lewis on the Most Haunted Locations in Iowa.
“We want to get the whole family excited about reading,” said Ottens. For more information about the Summer Reading Programs at the library, you can visit their website at www.oskaloosalibrary.org.
