Oskaloosa, Iowa – Many modern conveniences are filled with sophisticated electronics, but consumers are unsure what is best to do with those unwanted or broken items later on.

Mahaska Communication Group or MCG and CLOW have been hosting an eCycle event for the past several years. On Saturday, Mahaska County residents were able to bring in their old electronics to be recycled in an environmentally safe and secure manner. All the items collected will be professionally processed.

Midwest Sanitation helps out by bringing the bins for recycling, and local 4-H members helped as well.

Eddie Pierson with MCG said things on Saturday were pretty busy, with people starting to stop by at about 7:45 am, and there being a steady flow after that point. Old computers, printers, tv’s and video game systems found their way to the proverbial recycle bin.

This was Piersons first year working the recycle event, and he thought it “was pretty fun”.

“It’s a good event for the residents of Mahaska County, to get rid of the stuff they have in their basement or in their garage. ” said Pierson.

With the upgrade from old tube style TV’s to the newer flat-screen variety, “We’ll gladly take it, and get it recycled so it’s not in our landfills.” says Pierson. Those old TV’s were a popular drop-off item on Saturday. “It’s good to have an event like this so that people can get rid of that and not have it sitting in our landfills.”
