I’ve been giving this a lot of thought lately. I live in Mahaska county yet as I am not a citizen of a town I have no say in what goes on in our beautiful county. My address may say that the town I am from is Leighton; yet I have no say in what goes on in the town.

Now there has been a lot of frustration about this airport going in near my home. While it will not be going in on the site I live on I still feel for those who are about to loose valuable land and homes. Homes full of memories some bad but mostly good. These hard working folks have no say. They can voice their opinion all they want yet since they live outside city limits they must rely on friends and family and people they know within city limits to vote the way they want.

We as country folk have no say in what goes on and quite frankly if it affects us we should get a say. I guess it is a privilege to live in town and get the right to vote. Our fate so to speak is in your hands. I just wish you as town folk would listen to us and try to help us in anyway possible. Switch roles with anyone in the site and imagine it was you loosing your home and your land. Imagine you loosing your business as most of those people are farmers. Now think about not having a say in loosing your home all because two towns think they need a new airport when both have operational airports that serve their purposes. We are in debt as it is we don’t need more debt.

Now I don’t ever think us country folk will ever get a say in what happens out in the country but for once wouldn’t it be nice to know we had a say in what happened to our precious land.
