Oskaloosa, April 9, 2014– The Mahaska County YMCA Dolphins Swim Team finished out the 2013-2014 campaign with a trip to the University of Minnesota campus the weekend of April 5 and 6. A total of ten swimmers made the journey north to the regional meet to cap off a successful season that saw 70 swimmers compete for the team throughout the year. After logging many hours in the pool, both the swimmers and coaches were happy to see the Dolphins end the season on a high note, competing against some of the best the Midwest has to offer.

One of the defining characteristics of this season was the large number of records broken by team members. In all, a total of seven Mahaska County YMCA Dolphin swimming records were broken. These included:

Event Time Swimmer(s) Previous Time
9-10 Girls 50 Free 30.11 Sophia Dykstra 30.77
9-10 Boys 100 IM 1:14.00 Carson Breon 1:14.92
11-12 Boys 100 Free 58.13 Jared Miller 1:00.05
11-12 Boys 50 Breast 34.86 Jared Miller 35.20
12-UP Boys 200 Back 2:24.42 Jack Miller 2:29.84
13-14 Boys 200 Medley Relay 2:02:79 Jack Miller 2:03.05
Jared Miller
Carter Huyser
Nicholas Dykstra
13-14 Boys 200 Free Relay 1:46.87 Jack Miller 1:49.91
Jared Miller
Carter Huyser
Nicholas Dykstra

As impressive as the number of records broken was, it was the names taken down from the record board that may have caught the most attention. Three of the new records (200 Back, 200 Medley Relay, and 200 Free Relay) replaced spots formerly held by the current coaching staff. As with the end of any year, the proverbial torch must always be passed on, but this year, it rings true more than ever.
