On Saturday April 5th, Students from Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont High School performed at the State Solo and Ensemble Contest at Colfax Mingo High School. The EBF students earned 11 Division I Ratings and 13 Division II ratings. Those students earning division I ratings (superior) were: Jessica Jones, Flute & Piccolo solos, Riley Arnold; alto sax solo, Emma Haselhuhn; tenor sax & Soprano Sax solos, Gage DeLaCruz; trumpet and Vocal solos, Devon Severson; Vocal solo, Sara Loving; trumpet solo, Brandon Dicks; trombone solo, and Jessie Eveland; clarinet solo.

Riley Arnold had the distinction of earning her 4th consecutive Division I rating at State Solo Contest. Emma Haselhuhn, a junior, earned two perfect scores on her solos. Jessica Jones received the great honor of winning the Best of Center Award for her piccolo solo. This is the 3rd time Jessica has received this honor. The judges may select someone to win the Best of Center award in their center but unless they hear a truly remarkable performance, they do not always select a winner. This year, Jessica was the only person to receive the Best of Center Award at the Colfax Mingo site. She is eligible to perform her solo at Iowa State University on May 14th with the other Best of Center Award recipients from around the state. She also had the distinction of earning her 4th consecutive Division I rating on her flute and piccolo solos.

Students receiving Division II ratings (excellent) were: Mika Farnum; vocal, bass clarinet, alto sax, and clarinet solos, Aaron Huff; tuba solo, Faith Starr; clarinet solo, Hope Starr; flute solo, Irene Roberts; French horn solo, Jessie Eveland; vocal solo, Marina Rupprecht; vocal solo, Courtney Durst; marimba solo, Teri Jo Lane; trumpet solo, and Roseanna Miller; vocal solo. Irene Roberts and Victoria Vannoni also had excellent performances on their vocal solos as well. Directors Joe Overton and Chris Ellerston were very proud of everyone’s performance.
