A Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Press Release

At approximately 12:13 AM Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a female caller about an accident on Barnes City Rd. As officers approached the location, the 911 caller advised that her husband had picked her up and that he had a gun to his head. The caller was in a truck with her husband and they fled the area of the accident. Deputies from the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office pursued the vehicle and ultimately deployed stop sticks on the vehicle. The vehicle continued for about 1 mile before leaving the road way.

The driver of the vehicle died at the scene from a suspected self inflicted gunshot wound. The man’s name is not being released pending notification of family members. He was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, for an autopsy. No shots were fired by Law Enforcement.

The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the Poweshiek County Medical Examiner, the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
