William Penn Loses to #2 Vikings on Senior Day
Oskaloosa–The Statesmen men’s soccer team learned first-hand what the rest of the Midwest Collegiate Conference already knew: Grand View is really good. William Penn failed in its attempt to knock off the #2 team in the NAIA, falling 6-0 on Senior Day Saturday.
The hosts were outshot just 11-9, but the Vikings (15-2, 6-0 MCC) were beyond efficient. Grand View had just four attempts in the first half, yet scored on all four tries.
The visitors added two more goals early in the second half to finish off the scoring.
Angelo Kelly (So., Ottumwa, Iowa, Physical Education), Francis Koroma (Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn., General Accounting), and Leonardo Teixeira (Sr., Sao Paolo, Brazil, Business Management) all had two shots to guide William Penn (10-7-1, 1-4-1 MCC).
The loss fortunately did not damage the team’s seeding in the MCC Tournament as it remains in the #5 spot. William Penn will now hit the road for Cedar Rapids next Sunday to face #4 seed Mount Mercy Moines in a quarterfinal contest. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
