Oskaloosa, Iowa – The buzz generated lately around “Celebrate My Drive” has helped to create awareness and support for teen drivers. The initiative is being sponsored by State Farm Insurance and, locally, by Kelli Steil State Farm.

On Wednesday evening, members from Steil’s local office hosted an event at Smokey Row to help bring more awareness of Teen Drivers Safety Week, and State Farm utilized this week to help raise more awareness on a national and local level. The event at Smokey Row is an example of bringing the effort to a local level.

Students and community members then had an opportunity to sign up on a website and pledge and commit to be a safe driver. There is a carrot in this story for going that extra mile. The top 100 high schools with the safest driving commitments will be awarded grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000.

As of Wednesday evening, Oskaloosa was in 79th place among schools of its size. In order to be eligible to win the grant money, the school will need to be in at least 50th place. With two different sizes of schools competing, 50 winners from each size, that makes the 100 high schools that will be eligible.

Oskaloosa has through the 26th to visit www.celebratemydrive.com to pledge to be a safe driver, and help Oskaloosa reach its goal to be in the running for grant funds.

In a release earlier this week, “State Farm Agent Kelli Steil is encouraging area residents to attend in support of teens learning to drive and preparing for the road ahead.”
