Oskaloosa, Iowa – Understanding how the Affordable Care Act will impact you is a question many of us have, but knowing and finding help to wade through the many options can be even more daunting.

Tom Rielly of Rielly Insurance Services recently hosted a ‘lunch and learn’ to help educate consumers on the program.

“If I can get people good information on current topics, I’d like to try and do that,” says Rielly.

Information was presented by Lynn Schreder, of KHI Financial Solutions, that was designed to inform the participants about navigating the options available to those shopping for coverage. The coverage for those  signing up to be a part of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) is January 1, 2014.

Starting in 2014, individuals are required to have health insurance. This insurance could come from their employer or they must purchase a plan. If you don’t have insurance, you will be assessed a penalty the following year.

Schreder used the CoOportunity Health website as part of her presentation. Doing so allowed her to highlight the differences that the different levels of coverage may provide, but the site also helps users understand what their subsidy from the government may be, and the end cost to the user.

Coventry Health Care of Iowa is the second health insurance provider in Iowa, along with CoOportunity Health, to be part of the Iowa Healthcare Exchange Program for this year.

The national health care exchange website is located at healthcare.gov, but that site has been plagued by technical issues since its launch.

Rielly hopes that by hosting such events, consumers will become more aware of their options available to them.
