Missing New Sharon Woman Found Safe

New Sharon Iowa – A New Sharon woman was found safe and sound on Tuesday afternoon after a search by air and ground crews.

Members of the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office, Poweshiek County Conservation, Fire Departments from New Sharon, Barnes City, Searsboro and Grinnell, and air crews from Mercy One joined the Mahaska County CERT Team in the search.

During the search, Mahaska County Emergency Manager Jamey Robinson was helping to coordinate the search. He said that a grid search was established, and trying to get people out there to locate her.”

The unidentified woman’s family made a request to law enforcement, who then asked for the assistance of the New Sharon Fire Department, after her vehicle had been located at the Ever-Tru Wildlife area.

Authorities reported the woman was found at about 5:43 pm, walking along the side of a level B road, approximately 2 miles from where her vehicle was located.

The unidentified woman did suffer from some minor abrasions and was covered in thistles, but she told authorities that she was fine and did not want medical attention.

She later told authorities that she simply went for a walk, and that when she became tired she took a nap.

As of Wednesday morning, no other names had been released.
