7th Grade Football vs. Pella
The Oskaloosa 7th Grade football team dropped both games last night against the rival Pella Dutch. The A-Game was a battle until the very end but Pella was able to hang on 20-16. The game started out with the Indian offense going three and out and had to give the ball to Pella, who were able to sustain a nice drive with a mix of run and pass for a touchdown with the two-point conversion being no good to put the score at 6-0 in favor of the Dutch. Shortly into the second quarter the offense started to pick up the pace and provided some great holes for Hill and Miller, but the Indians turned the ball over in Pella territory. Pella tried to keep moving on offense but the Oskaloosa defense was flying around and made a great stop on forth down to set up the offense with great field position. The offense moved down the field and converted a big momentum changing fourth and short. A couple of plays later Riley Miller ran in a touchdown from one yard out and also converted the two-point conversion to put the Indians up 8-6. Pella then had a big kick return to get inside the forty of the Indians but once again the defense stepped up and stopped Pella from scoring before halftime.
After halftime the Indians shocked the Dutch with an onside kick to start the third quarter, Oskaloosa almost recovered the kick but a Pella player was able to snag up the football from a pile of players from both teams. After the onside kick recovery Pella drove down the field and scored on an eighteen-yard touchdown pass but were unable to convert the two-point conversion again to put the Dutch up 12-8. After the score it seemed that Pella had all the momentum on their side but the special teams of Oskaloosa stepped up big once again like they have all year and Payton Stovers took the kick off to the house for a sixty-five yard return. Miller then punched in the two-point conversion to put the Indians back on top 16-12. Pella got the ball back and put together a very impressive drive on offense. The Indians held the Dutch to a forth and long but Pella converted and scored a touchdown on a twenty-seven yard pass to the end zone, this time they were able to convert the two-point conversion to go up 20-16. The forth quarter was a battle until the very end but the Pella offense controlled the clock and were too much for the Indians who could not get the ball back late in the forth. Pella ended the game with a kneel down and gave Oskaloosa their first loss of the season.
Pella won the B Game 28-0. The game started out with Austin Hafner taking the kick return back for 33 yards to set the offense up with great field position. The Indians had a couple of nice plays but Pella intercepted the pass. The defense of the Indians were able to shut down the Dutch down, but Pella converted a forth and long by catching a pass that was tipped by the Indians. Drew Marolf and Cade Snakenberg helped stop the Pella offense by knocking down some big passes from the Pella offense to help the Indians get the ball back. The offense continued to struggle and Pella was able to dominate up front and made the Indians punt to the ball back. The Dutch took little time on offense as they scored on a twenty-three yard touchdown pass and also converted the two-point conversion to go up 8-0. Right before halftime Pella scored again, this time on a nine yard run to the end zone, but were unable to convert the two-point conversion to go up 14-0 over the Indians.
The third quarter was more of the same from the Pella offense who ran in a touchdown from twenty-seven yards out to go up 22-0. The offense of the Indians started to convert a couple of first downs provided by a nice pass from Marolf to Colton Stout. Shortly after that Pella got the ball back in the forth quarter and punched in their final touchdown from three yards out to put the score at 28-0. With only a couple of minutes left in the game Austin Hafner took the kick off back sixty-two yards to get inside the fifteen of the Dutch. Oskaloosa tried their best to get into the end zone before the game ended but Pella was just too much and shut the Indians down and closed out the game with a 28-0 victory.
