Football Season Gets Underway Maroon Wins 20 – 14 Over White
Oskaloosa, Iowa – Under the warm August sky, the Fall tradition kicked off at Lacey Community Stadium Friday night.
The annual Old Shoe Game marks the start of the season for the Oskaloosa Indians squad. Coaches divide up the team into, as equally as possible, a white team and a maroon team. The two temporary “rival” teams play nearly a full game, but in scrimmage mode.
New Oskaloosa Head Football Coach Mike Sterner was pleased with the results of the evening. He also mentioned the praise heaped upon the team by the referee staff.
The maroon team was once again victorious, as they racked up 247 total yards to the white’s 169 yards. Maroon accomplished this on the running game, with a total of 216 yards on the ground. Landgrebe lead that charge by collecting 182 yards on 16 carries. Wisse gained 91 yards on 6 attempts for the white team.
The Oskaloosa Indians will square off against Indianola in the season opener on Friday night at 7:30 pm at the Lacey Community Stadium.
