Oskaloosa, Iowa – With an increase of area students needing to obtain school supplies, area businesses in conjunction with Mahaska County Salvation Army, United Way of Mahaska County and SEIDA, and a small army of volunteers, have worked to donate, collect and now stuff the backpacks. These backpacks are now ready to find their way to area students.

Oskaloosa School Board member Charlie Comfort was one of those who donated time to help fill all those needed backpacks. “Operation Backpack is a fantastic program and I am thrilled to have been able to be a volunteer for the past two years. Board Vice President Tom Richardson and Board President Susan Boxler have also volunteered both of these years. I believe that it is very important to give back to the community and I think the participation of Tom and Susan, as well as myself, made a great impact on our young people.”

Forty-seven boxes had been distributed around the community, during the collection portion of the process, before stuffing the school bus August 1st.
