Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for the next new home as well as a house currently undergoing rehabilitation. The deadline to submit an application is August 19, 2013.

This application process will be a new approach to affordable housing. In the past, the annual household income had to be 60% or less of the median income for the county. This year MCHFH will consider household incomes up to 80%. That means a family of four could earn $45,350.00 annually and qualify for a new home. Executive Director Valinn McReynolds is pleased with the new development, “These new guidelines from HFH International will allow us to recruit homeowners from a larger portion of the working families of Mahaska County. When money is tight you want to help those folks who are seeing more of their paycheck going to basic needs. ”

Applications are available at the Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity office located in the Central Methodist Church, 201 N. Market and at LOVE Inc, located in the United Way Building, 500 High Avenue West. To request an application be e-mailed please contact director@mahaskahfh.org or call Valinn at 641.295.5905. Applications can be dropped off at either the Mahaska County Habitat for Humanity office or LOVE Inc. office or mailed to P.O Box 583, Oskaloosa, Iowa, 52577.

Habitat for Humanity began as an organization focused on new home construction. It is now trending toward sustainable community work. This includes deconstruction of substandard housing, rehabilitation of viable homes, and meeting the newer energy efficient approaches in building. The goal is to meet the needs of the community as a whole. For more information or if you have questions please contact Valinn at 641.295.5805 or director@mahaskahfh.org.
