Southern Iowa Carpfest
Weigh-ins Take Place at Eveland Access
The Southern Iowa Carpfest, a bowfishing tournament hosted by the Bowfishing Association of Iowa, will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27. The launch and weigh-ins will be held at the Eveland Access boat ramp located 4 miles south of Beacon, Iowa. Bowfishing teams of 2-3 people will compete for the “Big 15” fish and the “Biggest Fish” by bowfishing from Lake Red Rock down to the Ottumwa Hydro Dam. Bowfishing is a growing sport in Iowa and entails using a bow, arrow and a reel to fish for invasive rough fish such as the common carp, grass carp, small and large mouth buffalo, gar and others that are considered invasive in Iowa waters. The public is invited to watch or participate in this event.
To participate in the tournament, 2-3 person teams (optional 4th team member under 16) must sign up, pay $20 per person and attend a meeting 15 minutes prior to the launch at Eveland Access. There is an optional $10 per team to compete for the “Big Fish”. For more information, contact Kurt Wendl at (515)883-0556 or www.bowfishiowa.com.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Veteran’s Airlift Command, an organization that provides Wounded Warriors, veterans and their families air transportation for medical and other compassionate needs through a national network of volunteer aircraft owners and pilots.
