Serenades And Sundaes Coming To Nelson Pioneer Farm
Summer just wouldn’t be complete without an Ice Cream Social and some good old country music! Join the folks at Nelson Pioneer Farm and Museum in Oskaloosa for “Serenades and Sundaes” on Saturday, August 10, 2013.
The grounds and museum will open at 10 am. Test your skills with some Dairy Farmin’ Fun in the old white barn. Try milking and churning butter. Learn about making yogurt and cheese. The Ice Cream Social will be held in Bradbury Hall at 2 pm to 3:30 pm. Then, top off the afternoon with a special concert from Smithsonian Institution recording artists, Bob and Sheila Everhart. The Smithsonian calls their concert a “Traveling Museum of Music.” Their songs and the manner in which they play them reflect the true American innovative method of oral tradition.
The Everharts are devoted and dedicated to keeping acoustic rural country music alive. Music historians and founders of the National Traditional Country Music Association in Anita Iowa, they have been performing old-time and traditional acoustic music in the “Oh Brother Where Art Thou” style for all 20 years. Bob, a storytelling raconteur with a 12-string guitar and a French-harp is joined by Sheila and her acoustic doghouse bass as they bring their audience an incredible historically accurate ‘audio picture’ of America’s precious rural music of the past.
Come on out for Dairy Farmin’ Fun, ice cream and music at Serenades and Sundaes. Admission is only $7 for adults and $2 for children. It’s Serenades and Sundaes on Saturday, August 10 at Nelson Pioneer Farm & Museum, just off Hwy 63 at the North side of Oskaloosa.
