Dreyer named to Central assistant SID post
PELLA — Jacob Dreyer is returning to Central College as assistant sports information director.
A 2011 Central graduate, Dreyer was a student sports information assistant for four years as an undergraduate. For the past two years, Dreyer was a graduate assistant in the sports information office at South Dakota State University, where he served as the primary contact for eight sports in the Jacks’ highly successful Division I program. He assisted with many postseason NCAA events and served as the chief contact and statistician for The Summit League’s women’s soccer championships last fall. Dreyer also produced video and copy for the school’s athletics website, www.GoJacks.com. He received a master’s degree in mass communication and journalism at South Dakota State, where he posted a 3.90 grade point average.
Dreyer replaces Lara Gillespie, who left Central after three years for a new position in private business at Spirit Lake.
While at Central, Dreyer also served as sports editor for the campus newspaper, the Ray, and was a four-year letterwinner in men’s tennis. He received the tennis squad’s Bogaard Award as the most improved player in 2008-09 and served as the team captain in 2010-11. Dreyer also served as the team’s representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
In his new role at Central, Dreyer will handle many of the day-to-day sports information responsibilities and serve as primary contact for several of the college’s 19 sports. A Cedar Falls native, Dreyer and his wife, Rachael, were married June 22 in Bemidji, Minn. and are moving to Pella later in the month. He begins his duties at Central July 22.
