Oskaloosa, Iowa – Two people were injured when a 1990 Toyota Camry, driven by 17 year old Stephen Thompson of Knoxville, was traveling westbound on Highway 163, and collided into the rear of a slow moving John Deer tractor pulling a field planter, which was also traveling westbound. The collision happened near North Shore Drive and mile marker 55.

Also injured in the accident was Thompson’s passenger, 18 year old Derek Springer of Bussey. Springer was flown by Air Care to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Thompson was flown by Air Care to University of Iowa hospital in Iowa City.

The tractor, owned by 55 year old Randal DeJong of Leighton, was driven from the scene.

The accident remains under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, Oskaloosa Police Department, Oskaloosa Fire Department and Mahaska County Hospital Emergency Services.
