Oskaloosa, Iowa – The sounds of football have filled the PAC. No, it’s not the navy and gold colors of Penn, instead, it’s the black, red and gold of the Iowa Barnstormers.

The team has once again landed in Oskaloosa for its annual two week training camp, and the City of Oskaloosa officially welcomed the team to town on Sunday night with an autograph session at center court of Penn Central Mall.

The team holds practices starting at 8 am in the PAC on the campus of William Penn University, and spectators are welcome to watch them practice from the track level.

Jeff Lamberti, principle owner of the Iowa Barnstormers, spoke to those on hand about the time the team has spent in Oskaloosa. “We really didn’t have much doubt about wanting to come back again.”

Lamberti added, “Some of the players who come to us from California and Florida and Texas… wonder what’s the deal with all the snow. Second of all, they wonder what kind of small town place did we put them at. But it’s really important for us to get our team somewhere where we can start to build on something that is going to be really positive this year.”

Lamberti went on to say, “We really think that 2013 is going to be something really special for the Iowa Barnstormers, and a big part of that starts right now in this two weeks we are here – when they get to work hard, bond as a team, come together and really move to where we’re going to achieve greatness.”

Area fans, and some who drove from out-of-state, got an opportunity to get a Barnstormer or Stormchaser autograph, picture or buy one of the exclusive 2013 Oskaloosa Barnstormer t-shirts.

A fun sight was seeing locals sign their autographs for a Barnstormer as they filed through the line. Ace, the Barnstormer mascot was also on hand with his usual antics.

The team has more appearances planned in the Oskaloosa area.

Tuesday March 5, 2013, there will be a “Meet the Iowa Barnstormers” at The Oskaloosa Christian School from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The Barnstormers will be serving up hamburgers prepared by the Cattlemen’s Association.

On Tuesday March 12, 2013, “Building with the Barnstormers” from 4 to 6 pm at 1007 South F Street in Oskaloosa. Community members are invited to partner with the Iowa Barnstormers and Habitat for Humanity for some building fun, followed by a spaghetti dinner at the Central United Methodist Church.

Then On Thursday March 14, 2013, “Dinner at the Peppertree” has the team enjoying some great food and a fun atmosphere for photos, autographs and games. KBOE Radio will share it all live on the air if you can’t make it.
