Oskaloosa, Iowa – The 2nd Annual “Osky Winter Open” was held February 8 & 9 at Penn Central Mall, and Hawkeye Real Estate was an excited participant and mini-putt hole sponsor in this YMCA fund raiser. Chris Roach, Hawkeye Broker and Property Manager said, “We’re pleased to be a part of this event, because we feel our YMCA plays a key role in providing recreational opportunities to Mahaska Community families.

“Recreation is also an important factor to those considering Oskaloosa as a new place to call home,” continued Roach. “Our Y keeps many kids involved in extracurricular activities and promotes healthy lifestyle. Hawkeye Real Estate is celebrating 25 years in business. We’re proud to be part of this community and enjoy taking part in important events such as the Osky Winter Open.”

Hawkeye Real Estate, who is celebrating 25 years in 2013, sponsored hole #10 this year, which was designed and built by Amy Shafer’s father, Chris DeHaan. “My daughter, Amy, is a REALTOR at Hawkeye,” said DeHaan. “When she told me about the event and that Hawkeye was going to sponsor a hole, I volunteered to build the hole.  We are supporters of the YMCA, and this was an opportunity to partner with Hawkeye to help out a local non-profit organization in Oskaloosa.”

Shafer said her dad is retired, lives in Oskaloosa, and “loves to build things.” DeHaan spent approximately 10 hours building the mini-putt structure.

Hawkeye Real Estate agents who volunteered at this year’s event were Shafer, Lori Oaks, Sara Bonnett, Marcia Aalsburg, and Roach. As an unexpected result of this year’s event, Roach and his Osky Winter Open Classic Tournament partner, Jason Shafer, took second place in the flighted tournament.

“This was a great event and we are looking forward to next year,” concluded Roach.
