Mahaska County Auditor Celebrates Career
Oskaloosa, Iowa – If you were headed to the Auditor’s Office on Friday afternoon, you might have been greeted by a sign that said they were closed for the afternoon.
It’s not often you get to close the Auditor’s Office, and when you do, it’s for a good reason.
Mahaska County Auditor Kay Swanson was the guest of honor at a reception held, on the 3rd floor of the courthouse, in recognition of her service to Mahaska County. 52 years worth of service to be exact.
You could find Kay in the middle of the room, talking it up with all the well-wishers who stopped by. “It’s a good party.”
Kay is one that isn’t real fond of having her picture taken, but the staff in the Auditor’s office found a way to dig up some archive photos of Kay, as well as more recent photos. “I never did like my picture taken,” chuckles Kay.
If you ask Kay what’s she going to do in retirement, “I’m just gonna do what I want to do, when I want to do it.”
Sue Brown will take over as Mahaska County Auditor on January 1, 2013.
