Central College theatre hosts world premiere of “Dead Man’s Curve”
PELLA — Theatre Central will host four performances of “Dead Man’s Curve” Oct. 3-6 in the Kruidenier Center. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.
Premiering at Central, the new play is based on the book “Yellow Cab,” written by Iowa author Robert Leonard. The play was adapted and directed by Ann Wilkinson, instructor of theatre.
Set in Albuquerque, the new play follows Leonard’s experiences as a cab driver. The vignettes in “Dead Man’s Curve” offer a portrait of the city, the people and the dreams he encountered as he drove the streets of Albuquerque at night. The play does contain explicit language and adult topics.
Leonard graduated from Johnston High School and went on to earn a degree in history from the University of Northern Iowa. He later received a Ph.D. in anthropology and worked in historic preservation for the Zuni Tribe in New Mexico and taught at the University of New Mexico. Today, he works as the special news editor and host for KNIA/KRLS radio in Pella. In addition to “Yellow Cab,” Leonard is the author of dozens of scientific books, papers and newspaper articles.
The cost for a general admission tickets is $5. Student and senior citizen tickets are $3, and admission is free with a Central ID. Tickets are available at the Maytag Box Office or by calling 641-628-9000.
This production can also be seen at the Des Moines Social Club Oct. 11-13. Ticket prices are $10 general admission and $7 for senior citizens and students.
