Local Optimist Club to host football skills for girls and boys

Optimist International

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Twenty years ago the Oskaloosa Optimist Club held its first Tri-Star football skills event. On September 14, 2012 the club will once again host the event.

Open to all fourth, fifth and sixth grade girls and boys who reside or attend school in Mahaska County. There is no cost to participate.

Free registrations are available at Oskaloosa Elementary, Oskaloosa Middle School in Mr. Luck and Mr. Maddy’s rooms, Oskaloosa Christian School, Swim Sports and MidWest One Bank. More information may be obtained by calling 673-0123.

“This was one of the club’s first events when they chartered in 1993,” said club president Jeff Keep. “It continues to be our signature sporting event.”

The contest will be held at the lighted soccer field just north of Lacey Complex Stadium. Advanced registration is requested. The event will begin at 4 p.m.

Girls and boys will compete in punting, kicking and passing. Medals will be given to the top three boys and top three girls in each age division. Ribbons will also be given to all participants.

“Oskaloosa Optimists hold events to bring out the best in kids and assist them in becoming the best they can become,” said Keep. “It is in this way that we help our community to become stronger.”
