Megan Adams Wins Southern Iowa Fair Queen Pageant

2012 Southern Iowa Fair Queen is Megan Adams

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The first night of the fair was hot, with little breeze to cool off the large crowd gathered to witness the 2012 Southern Iowa Fair King/Queen Pageant.

Marvin Knoot once again took on the role of Master of Ceremony, introducing the seven queen candidates and the one king candidate.

The judges for this years contest were, Val Van Maanen, Randy DeGeest and Glenda Booy, with the Pageant Committee being Kathy Pleima and Lynnae Van Genderen.

After the initial interview with the candidates, each one then answered the same question as to what they would do if they could have President Obama’s attention for an hour. There were many different thoughts as to what they would talk about, but a common thought was also a wondering of what it’s like to live in the White House.

From there, the judges went into deliberation, and the Senior King and Queen were coronated. Daverne and Marla Witt were crowed the Senior King and Queen for the 2012 Fair by the 2011 Southern Iowa Fair Queen Allie Ferguson.

Lyman Marshall was crowned the 2012 King at the Southern Iowa Fair.

With anticipation in the air, seven young ladies took to the stage for the announcement of who would be crowned the 2012 Southern Iowa Fair Queen.

Second Runner-up was Kate Van Gilst, and First Runner-up was Emily Peters. With the announcement from the 2011 Queen Allie Ferguson, Megan Adams was proclaimed the Queen of the 2012 Southern Iowa Fair.

I caught up with Megan and asked her how she felt about being named Queen. “Exhilarating,” Megan said about winning.  “It’s awesome.”

Megan said she was very surprised to hear her name called out as the winner.

With being the Queen comes the responsibility of being at many events at the fair. Megan has already attended the swine show and “going all around,” she says.

Megan says that having the opportunity to represent Mahaska County at the Iowa State Fair is, “pretty amazing.” She says that it will be fun, and could be a life changing moment.

Megan will be heading off to Iowa State this fall to study Elementary Education.
