Mahaska County Supervisors Eye A Couple Of Agreements
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met Monday morning to what appeared a full agenda, but in a room not normally used for such meetings as the magistrate courtroom played host.
The board got down to work and was able to complete its agenda in just under an hour.
One of the first priorities on the agenda was a 28E letter of intent between four connected counties. Marion, Jasper, Poweshiek and Mahaska Counties would be the entities involved in the agreement for the purpose of implementing a regional design for mental health and disability services.
Supervisor Greg Gordy asked for clarification from Julie Bak and Supervisor Ken Rozenboom, who have been leads in helping to form the new regional mental health group that this initial letter of intent was then later binding.
The letter of intent will go to the Iowa Department of Human Services, where it will be reviewed then sent back to the counties for final approval and signatures.
The Supervisors then agreed to approve the letter of intent. Rozenboom said that the other 3 county boards have already approved the letter.
Other business involving the embattled 10-15 Regional Transit had a letter of intent releasing Lee County from the group. Also approved was naming Ken Rozenboom as Mahaska County’s representative on the transit board.
The 10-15 Transit is governed by the board of directors from the 11-county boards of supervisors. Program administration and transportation services are purchased under contract from the City of Ottumwa.
The Supervisors approved the updated 28E agreement for 10-15 Transit.
Supervisor Ken Rozenboom wanted to extend a compliment to all county employees for helping to keep workers comp claims low over the past few years, leading to what could potentially be large savings for the county and its tax payers.
Also approved was two new box culverts for the Secondary Roads Department.
With no public comment the meeting was adjourned.
The next scheduled meeting will be July 2nd in the 3rd Floor Conference Room at the Mahaska County Courthouse.
