Summer Reading Program Is In Full Swing

Mahaska County Naturalist Laura DeCook helps some younger Oskaloosa residents discover "Enormous Gigantic Animals"

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The summer heat is coming on strong, and nearly 70 local elementary youth enjoyed their time inside the Oskaloosa Public Library discovering Enormous Gigantic Animals.

Mondays are nature, with Tuesdays being Mrs. Fox Story Time. Wednesday brings Chess Club for those ages 8 to 18 and Thursdays are Great Performers. The activities start at 2 pm and go until 3 pm in the library story-time room, with the exception of Thursdays, where the fun is held in the meeting rooms on 3rd floor.

Mahaska County Naturalist Laura DeCook was on hand to give clues to the young artists to help them figure out the animals to draw, such as hippos, whales and giraffes.

Parents can still sign their children up for the upcoming activities that are scheduled to continue until June 28th. So far, 529 kids have been signed up to participate during the nearly month long program.
