GRINNELL COLLEGE MEN 3RD, WOMEN ARE 4TH IN 2011-12 MIDWEST CONFERENCE ALL-SPORT STANDINGS

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men’s athletic program was third and the women’s program fourth in the 2011-12 Midwest Conference All-Sport Championship.

All-Sport points are awarded on a 10-9-8, etc. basis in all sports. Championship tournament results are incorporated into the final standings. All-Sport champions are awarded the The Ralph Shively Trophy, which is named after the former MWC Commissioner.

Grinnell’s men finished with 72.5 points, just two points behind runner-up Monmouth College’s total of 74.5. Carroll University won the crown with 76 points.

Grinnell won championships and collected 10 points in two sports, swimming and tennis. The Pioneers got second-place points in cross country and basketball, and were third in baseball.

Grinnell’s women had 74.5 points. The champion was St. Norbert College with 79 points, followed by Monmouth with 78.5 and Carroll with 76.

The Pioneers won championships in cross country and tennis and tied for the title in soccer. They got second-place points in golf and swimming.
